Optional: Add in your more delicate and leafy herbs last (like Lemon Balm or Passionflower) and allow the decoction to marinate on the stove for an additional 5-10 minutes.

Once the decoction is cooled, strain through a fine mesh bag or cheese cloth, over a bowl.
Squeeze out all the goodness!
Pour the mixture into your pot/sauce pan once more.
On low heat- add in your honey, stirring until dissolved and desired consistency has been achieved.
Cool and pour into your jar.
This syrup is best kept in the refrigerator and is good for up to 3 months.
You can also store it in the freezer for up to 6months.
Here are the best tips to follow to ensure you nail this decoction like a pro!:
No matter what size batch you’re making, follow a 2:1 ratio (water: honey) you can always add in more honey if you'd like a sweeter taste and thicker consistency.
Keep in mind, when working with roots or bark, the consistency is much harder. So you will need to give more time to these herbs to break down, to ensure the most active compounds are extracted.
Keep it low and slow- NEVER boiling. Optimal temperature should never exceed 180 degrees (f)
Label your jar with the date.
Suggested use:
1 tablespoon up to 4x a day, or as needed.
You can also add this syrup to water and enjoy an herbal drink!
Do not give to children under the age of 2.
Have fun with this herbal syrup recipe!
